Attention CT Trappers! Anti-trapping legislation is in the works!

Attention CT Trappers : Legislation ALERT - Anti-trapping legislation has been propsed View this email in your browser H.B. 5615 AN ACT AUTHORIZING LOCAL BANS ON THE TRAPPING OF ANIMALS A House Bill has been introduced to the Environment Committee that will allow municipalities in Connecticut to ban trapping within their town borders. The Bill ( HB 5615 ) can be viewed by clicking on the link below: https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&bill_num=HB5615&which_year=2017 All trappers are urged to contact all members of the Environment Committee and voice your opposition to this Bill. Here is the link to obtain the Environment Committee's member information: https://www.cga.ct.gov/env/ If needed, below are a few talking points for you to use: Connecticut has one of the strictest trapping regulations in the country Trapping furbearers assists the Connecticut DEEP Wildlife Division by properly managing wildlife Connecticut trapping regulations follow strict adherence to the AWFA Best Management Practices - BMPs ( http://fishwildlife.org/?section=best_management_practices ) Trapping problem furbearers reduces rabies, distemper, and mange Trapping beaver assists in preventing drinking water contamination and septic system flooding. Banning trapping would be detrimental to land owners,their livestock and pets Banning trapping would impact municipalities and private landowners financially by forcing them to hire nuisance control professionals It has costs Massachusetts millions of dollars since they banned trapping ( flooding, water contamination, culvert maintenance, etc. ) We need to act now! Call, email or write to the members of the Environment Committee and let them know you OPPOSE this Bill. You will be alerted if a public hearing is scheduled. Thank you and good trapping!
