CFHA Packbasket July Edition

Hello Everyone,
 I'd like to start off by apologizing about the late edition of the CFHA Packbasket News letter.  This off season has been really busy for us.  We've been obtaining properties for members, beaver control, Cabelas events, trapping classes and workshops for children to name a few!  Several other events out there that I would like to touch upon:

• NTA Nationals is being held in Hamburg, NY.  July 28th-Aug 1st.  Anyone looking to meet up and/or looking to carpool please call:  Herb Sobanski 860-874-3172 or Branden Bergeron 860-377-7640
• Herb and Myself will be doing a workshop for kids at a couple of local Summer Camps in mid August.  Anyone willing to come out and spend a few hours sharing our knowledge of trapping with the kids is more then welcome.  Please send us a note on the website. 
• There is another Cabelas event coming up in August.  Exact date TBD.  If you are interested in participating please drop myself, Herb, Branden or Eric Schupp a email or text.  Great fun with the customers and staff of Cabelas!!
• September a basic trapper training class coming up.  Date TBD.  Anyone interested in taking the class please send us a message on the website.
• Speaking of Trapper Training...The CFHA is looking to help trappers become CERTIFIED CE/FS TRAPPING INSTRUCTORS.  If this is something you think you may be interested in please contact Herb Sobanski at trapperman43@hotmail.com or 860-874-3172.
• The CFHA is having our first ever Gun Raffle sponsored by the FBU.  More details to follow....
• Finally the CFHA is having a work shop in October.  This will also correspond with a Coyote Land Trapping Course.  The workshop will be a hands on demo workshop including skinning, fleshing, tanning, lure making and many more!!!  If you have a specific request please contact me at:  rszrejna@hotmail.com or 860-519-7677!!  Oh...did I mention that the workshop is FREE to all members!!!!  Members can come and dye and wax their traps for free!!  Dinner to conclude workshop!!!  More details to follow....

CT Fur Harvesters Association "PACKBASKET NEWSLETTER" June Edition

Good Morning Trappers!  
 
I apologize for the late emailing of the June Edition of the CFHA  "PACKBASKET"  but its been a very busy month for everyone!  Some of the things going on this month have been:

• CFHA represented the trappers of Connecticut at the Cabelas Outdoor Appreciation Day on June 13th.  We were welcomed by the Cabelas staff and had over 200 people visit our booth.  It was such a good showing we've been invited back to additional events coming up!
• The CFHA and The Nutmeg State Council of Sportsmen (Pleaseworked tirelessly with many other organizations including to help push the Sunday hunting bill through!  Thank you to all that called and emailed the Governor and their represenatives to make this happen!
• Working on the final stages of our Trappers Workshop coming in September which will be FREE to all of our members.  This will not be your "stand there and watch" type of demos.  This will be class participation and hands on all the way!  As a quick note as well...We will be allowing our members to dye and wax all of their traps for free!!!  Date will follow this week!!

 
 
As everyone knows the Trappers Post is the official magazine of the CFHA.  This week Bob Noonan, the editor of the Trappers post lost his wife Debbie to complications related to an accident she had in March.  Please take a moment to send your condolences to Bob and his family for thier loss. 
 
I wrote an article in this edition of the Packbasket titled "Definition of Family".  Often times we take for granted our families, immediate or extended.  Bob's loss and the loss of a fellow trapper Dave Ridzon earlier this year only remind me how precious those moments you have and share with your families really are.  Take the time to appreciate you loved ones and the bonds you've made though the travels in your life.

     Welcome to our very first edition of the CFHA "PACK BASKET NEWSLETTER".  This newsletter is exclusive to our membership and filled with information and commentary for our members and trappers.  Please feel free to comment and also submit an article or two if you are so inclined.  Looking forward to your input and remember about our meeting @ Cabelas on May 19th @ 7pm!  This is a membership meeting with lots to discuss and we look forward to hearing from you!

This is Tony Szrejna, Secretary/Treasurer of the CFHA, reminding you about our membership meeting tomorrow night at Cabelas in East Hartford, CT @7pm.  This will be our 1st meeting for our membership and we have a lot of things to discuss!  Items include:

• Workshop free for members planned for end of June (tentative). 
• Discussion of upcoming additional events to include an event @ Cabelas!
• The NTA national event in New York.
• The CFHA Pack Basket news letter !!!!
• ..and of course anything else the membership wants to bring to the table!!!
